Finally it is here, the fully working WHDLoad patch for Goal!, one
of the best football games ever released in my opinion.
This patch took me a long time to do, in fact it's the patch I've
been working on for the longest time. To be precise, it took me
14(!) years until I finally had a fully working patch.
I coded a custom installer for this game back in August 1997, I
had coded my own WHDLoad-like system which I used to create quite
a few patches back in the day. The patch was almost perfect except
for one small yet very annoying problem. The directory of the replays
disk wasn't loaded correctly thus it was impossible to load replays.
I spent a lot of time trying to find the reason, yet, for many years
without success. In February 2007 I adapted my old code for WHDLoad
because people requested a fully working Goal! patch since the old
patch by Mr. Larmer had exactly the same problem with the replays
disk directory as mine.
It took me another almost 5 years until I found the reason so
finally, 14 years after I made my first Goal! patch, I could fix it.
Since the game has been coded in C understanding the disassembled
code wasn't easy. I really invested a lot of time, blood and sweat
in this patch, I do hope you appreciate it!
The patch supports 2 versions, v1.0 and v1.1, for v1.0 also the
TRSI crack is supported since it wasn't much extra work (almost none!)
as the crack is very clean and except for the Copylock and a small
message in the bootblock nothing was changed.
Load/Save is fully supported, if you already have a data or
replays disk you can use DIC to create an image of it. The
data disk must be named disk.3, the replays disk is disk.4.
The slave will create the data/replays disk if none is found.
You can disable this feature with the CUSTOM2=1 tooltype.
I have disabled all routines to format data disks in the game
as they are not needed anymore. If you're trying to use them
you'll get an error message from the game which I deliberately
The intro can be skipped with the CUSTOM1=1 tooltype.
Have fun with a fully working Goal! patch!
