This install applies to "Megademo (a.k.a. Hit Fido)" © 1991 KGB.
Requirements:
-------------
This install requires WHDLoad and DIC to be in the path.
To install from a different drive than DF0: select installation mode Expert.
The installed demo requires 0.5 MB ChipMem (+1.8 MB OtherMem for preload).
It can be quit by pressing F10 (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey=").
Features:
---------
- Full load from HD
- Blitter waits added (x126, 68010+ only)
- Illegal copperlist entry fixed
- Illegal BLTADAT values in line drawers fixed (x2)
- ROM access patched
- Resident code disabled
- OS stuff patched
- DMA wait in replayer fixed
- Byte write to volume register fixed
- Interrupts fixed
- Disk 2 can be booted with CUSTOM1
- Blitter wait patches can be disabled with CUSTOM2
- Reset at end of demo patched to quit back to DOS
- 3 NewIcons (created by me)
- Source code included as usual
- Quit option that works on 68000 machines (default key is 'F10')
Now there finally is a patch for this demo too, wanted to create one
for a long time already as it's one of my old favorite demos. A lot of
people refer to this demo as "Hit Fido" but that's actually only the
name for the first part, the demo is simply called "Megademo"!
Code is very good, not much had to be fixed. I had to add a lot of
blitter waits in the "Crazy Sines" part, these are only installed
on 68010+ machines. Since the added blitter waits will slow down the
code quite a bit I have added an option to disable them even on 68010+
machines, use the CUSTOM2 tooltype for this feature. Chances are that
the part will still operate correctly without graphics problems if your
machine is not too fast.
To boot from disk 2 you can use the CUSTOM1 tooltype, the demo will start
with the loader part then, i.e. the rather long "Hit Fido" part and the
TV test pattern part will be skipped then.
Speaking of the test pattern part, in the original demo the realtime
clock at $DC0001 was accessed to get the current time which is displayed
on screen, I had to emulate this which was not hard but fun to do.
Enjoy this nice but pretty underrated demo from HD.
