Summary | 0006479: Save Game Disk Feature corrupts hard drive | ||||||||||||
Description | Hi, I’ve identified another quite significant issue / bug with Super Tennis Champs. Now perhaps this is user error on my part but I wanted to check as the consequences of performing the action below is very serious! So I wanted to save a game and clicked on the ‘ make save game disk ‘ icon in the menu. When I did this lots of border flashing etc too place and I assumed that it was going to save the game somewhere on the hard drive within the folder for Super Tennis Champs. However I was very wrong! What actually happened was after leaving the machine doing what it was doing for about 5 minutes it actually hung and I had to reboot. It was only then that I noticed that other games were no longer working correctly (Sensible Soccer and F1 by Microprose amongst others). First I noticed that the save game for these games was no longer working - I could select it but it would not save a game. When I then loaded up F1 from Microprose I noticed that all the game loaded and run there were green patches of corruption on the screen and functionality such as the guided line for each circuit was missing. I put 2 & 2 together and realised that the only thing that has changed on my A1200 in the 2 hours before this was the failed save action in Super Tennis Champs. I restored my entire CF card (hard disk) on my A1200 from a backup and everything went back to working as normal. Perhaps you could take a look at the SAVE game feature in Super Tennis Champs because it would a) be great to have and b) prevent others from the mistake I made. Thanks again for your help. What is your filesytem (FFS, PFS,...) when it's saving ? (by default, it saves on the game data dir) Is your MaxTransfer is correct ? (pls see https://whdload.de/docs/en/bugs.html) |

Hi, Thanks again for getting back to me re this. I'd like to be sure that save game features work correctly on this and other games. I'm quite inexperienced with my Amiga and WHDload so stick with me. I have attached a screen shot that shows the data you have requested from the partition that WHDload is installed on (it's a RetroClinic build so was all set up for me). Is the 'game data' dir you mention local to each game folder in WHDload? It's : Filesystem : PFS\03 Mask : 0x7FFFFFFE Max Transfer : 0x1FE00 I note that the mask and MT differ from the link you kindly sent to me. Does this need to be changed and if so is it safe t do so?! When I have played other games like Microprose F1 the save game does work so unsure if it's just related to this game or more general. Any guidance to ensure my set-up is spot on is hugely appreciated. I also note the link you gave mentions issues with 1230 cards and mine is a Tsunami 1230 if that help. I'll await news. Regards - Rob |

Your Max Transfer = 0x1FE00 is ok. You should install the PFS3 All In One if you use the old commercial PFS3 product. See https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=90778 Here a CF large drive FAQ: https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=61666 You can set another location for saving data using SAVEPATH option: https://whdload.de/docs/en/opt.html#SavePath The path can be stored on another disk partition (ie. FFS) if you still have problem when saving on a PFS3 partition. Hope it helps. |

And it's highly recommanded to check all your amiga disk partition with an antivirus software, ie VirusZ https://aminet.net/util/virus/VirusZ.lha |

Thanks for confirming the Max Transfer on my systems is okay and also for the disk partition virus check advice. I'm quite new and non Amiga technical so have a question both the filesystem advice you gave above. - My system was initially set up by Steve at Retrocession and the partitions and filesystems on them set by Steve. How do I know if I have the old commercial PFS3 product installed and do I need to install the PFS all in one you mentioned or is that only if I have issues? Thanks once more for your time and advice. |

To know what is your filesystem version installed on the RDB, load HDToolBox. Click on Add/Update (see attached pic), it will display all the filesystems on your CF. The latest version (IFAIK) of PFS3 All in One is 19.2. |
