Last year I wanted to improve this slave myself. I got as far as implementing the loading and saving of the game in progress as well as the handling of the simple language programs on the ship computer and adding support for BUTTONWAIT and keymap selection through CUSTOM1. I also did some keyboard layout fixes and some other fixes.
There's still things left to do, but I have not had the time or the will to touch the slave for over six months now and I don't know if or when I will.
So that my work won't get wasted I'm posting a working install and its source here. If someone else wants to pick up where I've left they can feel welcome to, but please leave a note here if you do so that I know.
I don't have the other version of the game supported by Mr. Larmer's slave. To avoid regression I incorporated his old patches, but they haven't been improved or tested at all, hope they still work. The slave may look a bit weird at places since support for other versions than what I have was an afterthought and I was in the middle of implementing ideas on how to do it nicely when I stopped altogether.
If you want to try this and have used slave 1.0 before, re-install or create directories data and data/datadisk and move Disk.1 to the former. |

Hmm. At least I think so. There's two issues that really should get
fixed that I know of, but they're also present in the old slave.
However, the old slave supported two versions and I only have one, so
all my improvements target just that.
I included what should be pretty much the same old patches for the other
version to avoid regression, but it hasn't been improved at all nor even
tested if it really still runs. |
