Hello, my name is Mike from germany and I have a question about the original version of the Amiga Game Emerald Mine.
Please forgive me for sort of abusing this form, but I am really desperate to find anyone who is an expert on emerald mine and has played ALL levels in single player mode. And I thought that maybe the person who is reading this has. So my question is:
I played the game two times: The first time was
about 35 years ago, when I was a kid. I played it with two friends. At some point we reached a level without any door available after collecting all diamonds. At first we thought that the door could be invisible because if i remember correctly in at least one level before this level that was the case. But we checked every square and that wasn’t the case.
So we stopped playing there.
About 25 years later, so 10 years ago I replayed Emerald Mine using an emulator. Even though my reflexes were worse, I still managed to
reach that level again and the same thing happened!
I really doubt that I was missing something. I have only two explanations for it:
1) Did the versions have a bug? Or was it some sort of copy protection to frustrate players? I feel both theories to be unlikely because
a copy protection would be placed in one of the first levels, not after 40-90 levels (I don’t remember the number of levels, it is too long ago)
2) It actually was the ending (=last level) and it was not possible to pass this level. This I think is a bit more likely, but still not really convincing-
Wouldn’t the developers after spending sooo many time creating all this levels not spend a few days to provide a more satisfying ending
(like some text success message after going through the door of the last level)? And not an ending that leaves the player confused
and unsure whether this is the end or not?
Keep in mind I am only talking about the single player mode.
It would really be great to get a reply . This question has been tormenting me for a loong time ;)

After finishing level 3 game quits to Workbench. I tried few versions of WHDload (16, 17, 18) and tooltypes NOMMU and NOCACHE.
Message after quit is:
Function 'resload_Decrunch' called with unacceptable arguments
=$FFFFFFFF PC = $2FFD2EE (Slave $2EE).
I can send a savegame just before the end of level 3 to test.

thanks for your great work on making WHDLoad installs.
I had problems running RP3 on my A4000-D with Kickstart 3.2.3, which seems to be a common issue:

This is why I tried to use your WHDLoad install, as this seems to load a working kickstart version before starting the game.
But unfortunately the installers unzipping via xadunfile didn't work for me (no data was ecxtracted) and there was no error message either.
So I just unpacked the contents of the archive myself to the install directory, just like it would be located when using Richards install routine.
But when starting the game, it can't find the "rp3.bin" file, altough it is in the install directory of RP3 together with the WHDLoad slave.
Where do I need to put "rp3.bin" and the other files, so the WHDLoad install will find them?

On enemy selection screen if you press a keyboard number (0-9) the game will show broken info data ("Tiger's Claw" as enemy, and wrong ship image see pic above)

Graphics corruption noticed during final stage.
Player defeats several opponents triggering a load/swap.
when the amiga finishes loading, the game may recover with severe graphical corruption and in rare cases audio as well.
Amiga may eventually hang entirely, or display to a blank/half screen as torture continues.
Various Setpatch executables were attempted with very slightly different results or perhaps placebo effect?

I will paste what I already posted on eab.
CannonFodder on A530 + WHDLOAD - performance is trash. Game is unplayable - super slow. Second mission will show you why.
CannonFodder on HD8+ WHDLOAD - stock a500 performance. Quick Loading.
CannonFodder on A530 on Gotek/FDD - perfect performance ingame. Zero lags. Steady framerate like on CD32 with TF328/fastram. Perfect.
So in this game combo WHDLOAD with A530 destroys performance. I wonder if it is fixable and what is the reason behind this. Or is this Chipmem issue. Clearly the game can take advantage of A530 but only from floppy. So it is possible.
CannonFodder on A530 + JST runs 100% better than on WHDLOAD on the same slave. It is playable... I would say the performance is close to stock A500 sometimes worse sometimes even better. There are slowdowns.
CF is one of the best games ever - at least for me. If it is possible to track down why this is happening - cool!!!

Also it runs slow as it should, but then goes like crazy smooth fast forward and the music stops. Then it slows and goes fast again.
