This install applies to "Kick Off 96" © 1996 Anco.
Requirements:
-------------
This install requires WHDLoad and DIC to be in the path.
These programs can be found in the WHDLoad package.
To install from a different drive than DF0: select installation mode Expert.
The installed game requires 1.0 MB ChipMem ((+2.6 MB for preload).
It can be quit by pressing Del (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey=").
Features:
---------
- Full load from HD
- Protection removed (9x checksums, 2x protection track check)
- DMA wait in sample player fixed
- Keyboard routines fixed
- Interrupts fixed
- ButtonWait support for title pictures (see below)
- Bplcon0 color bit fix
- Load/Save supported
- Automatic creation of data disk (see below)
- NewIcon (created by me)
- Source code included as usual
- Quit option that works on 68000 machines (default key is 'Del')
This patch was requested yesterday and when I arrived at work this
morning I started to work on it and had everything finished after
some hours of not too hard work.
I got the images from the Amiga Forever CD but these were made from
the commonly available cracked version. This patch should work
with the original version too but I couldn't test it for obvious
reasons.
Load/Save is fully supported, if you already have a data disk you
can install it using the install package. If you manually want
to copy a save disk create an image of it with DIC and rename
the file to "disk.4".
If no data disk is found the slave will create one, this feature
can be disabled with the CUSTOM1 tooltype.
Update 04-Apr-2014:
I have added support for the ButtonWait tooltype, if enabled
both title pictures will be shown until either left mouse button
or fire is pressed. Due to the fast loading from HD the pictures
will be almost invisible otherwise.
The game is better than Kick Off 3 at least but still not exactly
good in my opinion. It features quite an ugly mix of assembly and
C with lots of debug routines left in the code.
Speaking of ugly code, even 2 years after the release of Kick Off 3
the coder still didn't know how to relocate a binary hence there
are still 2 binaries, one for 1MB chip and 1 for 512k/512k
fake fast at $c00000. Really no further comment needed! Instead
of trying to protect the code with lots of useless checksums time
should have been spent learning a thing or two about relocations...
Enjoy the game from HD anyway.
