This patch applies to "Dogs of War" © 1989 Elite Systems

Three versions are supported:
  - Original release (SPS #3008)
  - Pocket Power release
  - Budget release

Thanks to Carlo Pirri for originally supplying two versions,
and BarryB for supplying the Pocket Power release.

IMPORTANT:
  If you have previously installed Dogs of War using version 1.0-1.3 of this
  patch, you will need to reinstall it again since version 2.0.
  (Highscores from old version can be copied over if you wish.)

REQUIREMENTS:
  - Original disks or compatible disk images
  - Slave requires WHDLoad V18+.
  - Installer requires RawDIC
  - Game requires 512k chip mem
    (+750k other memory for preload option)

FEATURES:
  - Game loads entirely from HD
  - Three versions supported: Original, Pocket Power and budget releases
  - Protection check on original removed
  - Decompression and stack pointers moved to fastmem if available
  - CPU-dependent timing loops (empty dbf) fixed x6
  - Blitter waits added x22
  - Start a 1 or 2 player game by pressing fire on either controller
  - Game bug fixed when pressing F1 to restart - crashed if pressed too early
  - Removed two debug keys with "TIMBO" cheat mode that crashed the game
  - Highscores loaded from and saved to HD (unless you cheat)
  - Button wait added to highscores so they don't disappear quickly
  - Name entry on highscores can be skipped with fire (game adds a random name!)
  - Waits added to various text screens so they don't flash by
  - Enhanced CD32 and 2/3-button joystick controls (CUSTOM2=1 to enable):
    * Blue/button 2 switches weapon
    * Green/button 3 switches manual/auto fire
    * Pause button pauses+unpauses the game (CD32 pads only)
    * Yellow+shoulder buttons quits (CD32 pads only)
  - Trainer modes available:
    * Invincibility - set CUSTOM1=1 and press F5 during game to toggle
      (this just switches on game's own "TIMBO" cheat by default)
    * Infinite Lives - set CUSTOM1=2
    * Infinite Ammo - set CUSTOM1=4
    * Infinite Cash - set CUSTOM1=8
    * Level Skip - set CUSTOM1=16 and press HELP during game
  - Quit to Workbench at any time (Default key: F10)
  - RomIcon/NewIcon/ColorIcon/Exoticons made by Captain HIT
  - Source code included

HISTORY
Version 2.1 (2022-11-29)
  - Updated imager to support Pocket Power release, which has some tracks
    unformatted - thanks BarryB for supplying.
	These tracks aren't used on any version so they are nulled out.
	No reinstall necessary, although the disk image is slightly shorter now!

Version 2.0 (2022-01-06)
  - Overhauled parts of install and updated to use WHDLoad 18 features
  - Disk imager updated again to read missing tracks that resulted in some
    levels not working correctly (requires reinstall)
  - Stray disk reading code removed (fixes weapon screen missing in WinUAE)
  - Merged trainer settings into single CUSTOM1 bitmask to free up other flags
  - Added settings to splash screen
  - Enhanced controls for CD32 pads + 2/3-button joysticks
  - Fast memory made completely optional
  - More stack pointers moved to fastmem if available
  - Delay+button wait added to initial splash screen on game startup
  - Screen showing number of players selected pauses so it doesn't flash by
  - Game over screen has an extra delay so it doesn't skip music
  - Fixed a bug with corrupted highscores if save file was missing

Version 1.3 (2006-01-08)
  - Fixed a bug which caused the game to freeze in WinUAE when you select 1 or 2
    players. The actual bug was a subtle difference in how a real Amiga handles
	the Disk Block Ready interrupt compared to WinUAE :-)
  - Added ability to select 1 or 2 players using the fire button on each
    controller port

Version 1.0-1.2 (2002-08-04)
  - Original release and fixes to support extra version and remove protection

GAME CHEAT MODE:
  - Type TIMBO at any time, then press F5 to toggle invincibility.
    This cheat mode is detected and will stop highscores from saving!

WORDS FROM THE AUTHOR:

This install was in need of some updating due to bugs including missing disk
data (unfortunately the original I used to build the install in 2002 had some
corrupted tracks). That meant it was also a good opportunity to add in some
enhanced controls for CD32 players. You should be able to play the game entirely
by controller now - no keyboard required!

My 7th install is something of an old favourite for me :-) Such a simple
game yet so addictively fun (sick minded.. me?)

For the most part this game is very nicely coded, except for these debug
keys left in by the programmers (the TIMBO cheat really is more of a
debugging tool left in during production).

That, and the fact that a lack of blitter waits during the game meant
that running with caches switched on the in-game stuff completely
screwed up. Not that you'd ever really see that because the custom
floppy loader required a serious degrade to run in the first place :-)
