This install applies to "Megademo" © 1988 Software of Sweden.
Requirements:
-------------
This install requires WHDLoad and RawDIC to be in the path.
These programs can be found in the WHDLoad package.
To install from a different drive than DF0: select installation mode Expert.
The installed demo requires 0.5 MB ChipMem (+0.4 MB for preload).
It can be quit by pressing F10 (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey=").
Features:
---------
- Full load from HD (real files!)
- DMA settings fixed
- DMA wait in replayer fixed (x3)
- Illegal copperlist entries fixed (x1584)
- Access faults fixed (x3)
- Timing fixed
- Decruncher (ByteKiller) relocated to fast memory and error check added
- ButtonWait support for loader picture
- Color flashing during decrunching can be enabled with CUSTOM1
- NewIcon (created by me)
- Source code included as usual
- Quit option that works on 68000 machines (default key is 'F10')
Not the most entertaining demo but still OK to watch. The parts
are all very similar (scrollers galore) so it gets boring after
a while. Ron (one of the coders) is still active nowadays but he's
back on the C64!
Code is quite OK but there were a few access faults which had to be
fixed. All of them were caused by an uninitialised index register
(high word wasn't cleared) which meant that random memory locations
were accessed. Other than that there were no major problems.
All parts were crunched with ByteKiller, I have relocated the
decruncher and added an error check, if decrunching fails WHDLoad
will quit with an appropriate error message.
If you like the flashing colors during decrunching you can enable them
with CUSTOM1=1. Since I am not fond of them they are disabled by default!
If the loader picture disappears too fast you can use the ButtonWait
tooltype, the picture is then displayed until the right mouse button
is pressed.
The demo had a cute check if the loaded data was OK, the first and last
longs were checked by the loader, first long has to contain "Sune"
and the last one "Fjun". Not exactly bullet-proof of course but
deserves a mention as it wasn't too common back in 1988!
Enjoy the demo from HD.
