This install applies to "Megademo 5" © 1989 Kefrens.
Requirements:
-------------
This install requires WHDLoad to be in the path.
To install from a different drive than DF0: select installation mode Expert.
The installed demo requires 0.5 MB ChipMem (+0.8 MB OtherMem for preload).
It can be quit by pressing F10 (key can be changed with Tooltype "QuitKey=").
Features:
---------
- Full load from HD
- OS stuff patched
- Self-modifying code fixed
- Blitter waits added (x4)
- DMA wait in replayer fixed (x7)
- Byte write to volume register fixed (x9)
- Interrupts and DMA settings fixed
- OCS only DDFSTRT/STOP fixed
- Bplcon0 color bit fixes (x5)
- Byte writes to color registers ($dff18x) fixed
- Illegal BPLCON2 settings fixed
- All Decrunchers (ByteKiller) relocated to fast memory and error check added
- Graphics problem fixed (Ball demo)
- NewIcon (created by me)
- Source code included
- Quit option that works on 68000 machines (default key is F10)
Another requested patch for a classic demo is now finished. The code in
most of the parts isn't that great (bloated, rather unstructured and
chaotic etc.) but at least more or less clean. Demo originally only worked
on OCS machines due to wrong DDFSTRT/STOP values in two of the parts and
would crash on anything but OS 1.2 due to direct ROM access to restore the
level 3 interrupt vector. This has all been fixed of course.
A few blitter waits had to be added too but these are not time-critical
so they are applied on 68000 machines too.
In part 3 ("Ball Demo") a graphics problem kept me busy for a while, in fact
I ended up disassembling and relocating the complete part so that I could
easily adapt the source and create a running part just by assembling the
source.
Other that that there were no serious problems and creating the patch
was a lot of fun, a few hours of my leisure time well spent I guess. :)
Enjoy this classic from HD.
