Another old patch has now been redone, wanted to do it for quite a while
already and now have finally finished all work. I bought the original
back in 1991 during my holidays in Denmark and have fond memories
of both the holiday and the game. :) Well, I actually also bought an
original of the C64 version back then. It's a great game on both
machines!
If you have installed an earlier version of the patch you need to
reinstall as the format of the disk images has changed, now each disk
uses exactly 1 file instead of 2 files as in the old patch. You can
also install your existing roster disk if you wish, this is all handled
in the install script.
The roster data now is just a very small file instead of a whole disk
image. If no roster data is found the patch will create it "on the fly".
Please note that the roster data is only saved once you either complete
a mission or abort it, the data is NOT saved after entering the pilot
name!
The code in the game is quite good so not much had to be fixed, I just
had to add a few blitter waits and the sample players needed fixing
too as they used CPU dependent delay loops for the DMA wait.
The timing for the fade effect has been fixed as well, it is now displayed
properly even on very fast machines.
Protection was MFM and a manual check, I have completely disabled the
manual check so you won't ever see it.
Supported are all known versions of the game (2 disk UK release, 3 disk
US release, 1 disk compilation release and 2 disk KixxXL version). If you
have an unsupported version please contact me and I'll happily add support
for it.
Enjoy the game from HD.
